dad's army (1974)
turkey dinner

Dad's Army. One of the best television sitcoms ever created ran from 1968 - 1977 had 18 million viewers in its hey day and is still repeated around the world today.

It follows the misadventures of Captain Mainwaring and his platoon of mostly elderly soldiers during World War II who are too old for active service and instead serve in the Home Guard in the little coastal English town of Walmington-on-Sea.

In Turkey Dinner Corporal Jones accidentally kills a turkey so the platoon organises a lavish turkey dinner for the pensioners of Walmington-on-Sea. As you can imagine it doesn't quite go to plan...

Of course there's the hilarious high jinks of the platoon as they sheepishly admit that they went from pub to pub to stop Mr. Cheeseman shivering, that Godfrey sung a rather rude song about a monk of high renown (that wasn't religious), when they try to count a flock of turkeys, and when Pike has an accident with the gravy.

Sure there are no Christmas trees but you can't help but get the festive feels off this one from the turkey dinner (you can't truly have Christmas without turkey) and the nostalgic, warm, community buzz you get from Dad's Army. Just wonderful!
