Four Zimbabwean men form their country's first Wine Tasting Olympics team.

Much like the Zimbabwean sommeliers in the World Wine Tasting Champions, I had no idea what Blind Ambition was about before I stepped in to watch it. But I’m so glad I did. With a stirring, fist pump inducing true story that will make you weep buckets, Blind Ambition is one of the best films of 2022.

Having escaped starvation and tyranny in their homeland of Zimbabwe, four refugees have conquered the odds to become South Africa's top sommeliers.

Driven by relentless optimism, a passion for their craft and unshakeable national pride, they form Zimbabwe’s first ever wine tasting team and set their sights on the coveted title of ‘World Wine Tasting Champions’.

From the moment they arrive in France to compete, this team of mavericks turns an establishment of privilege and tradition on its head. A truly uplifting documentary that celebrates just how irrepressible the human spirit can be.

Blind Ambition is not only a superb documentary, but an outstanding story. We are introduced to the four Zimbabwean refugees who are heading to the World Wine Tasting Championship in France. One by one we hear harrowing details of their escape from Zimbabwe and how they made their way into the world of wine tasting.

What is incredibly stirring and will make you weep buckets is how so many people become shoulders for these four incredible young men to stand on from those who first gave them a chance at a job in South Africa to a Christian minister who housed them when they were homeless to a top wine official that advocates for them to be apart of the championships. It's utterly inspiring.

But what really got to me is the pain, sacrifice, and almost insurmountable obstacles that these four men had to overcome to get to where they are. It’s such a testimony to the endurance and beauty of the human spirit. I can’t rave or write about this film enough. Make sure that you go and see it. It’s a truly wonderful film.
