bride hard
★★
starring: rebel wilson, anna camp, justin hartley, and anna chlumsky
REVIEWER: emily carter
When a mercenary group takes a lavish wedding hostage, they have no idea what they are in for as the maid of honor is actually a secret agent ready to rain hellfire upon anyone who would ruin her best friend's wedding.
Bride Hard is some frenzied fun, heavy on the "huh?" And a little light on the "haha".
Sam is a world-class secret agent but a terrible maid of honor. After blowing off bridal duties for an international spy mission, she's demoted to bridesmaid at her friend's wedding. However, she soon gets a chance at redemption when armed mercenaries crash the ceremony, forcing Sam to take down the bad guys in a blaze of glory.
Rebel Wilson - we know her, we love her and we know exactly where we stand with her. Her trademark dry humour is there in spades as Sam, a great secret agent and a bit of an average bestie.
After being demoted from maid of honor for her best friend's wedding, Sam finds herself juggling bridesmaid duties and fighting a bunch of mercenaries. A wild set of events with a few genuine laughs, but a hearty serving of groans too.
I loved Da'Vine Joy Randolph as bridesmaid Lydia - every line was a nugget of comedy gold. I didn't love the dodgy fights, green screen and jokes that just didn't land.
While the cast list is packed with stars, bits of the story are a little far reaching as this bunch of mercenaries battle crazy tech for literal gold bars.
Bride Hard is a bit of fun, but far from groundbreaking. It misses the mark with unconvincing stunts and jokes that don't quite hit the mark, but the fun cast make it a wedding you wouldn't mind being invited to.
