When a highly dangerous fungus escapes from a secret laboratory, a former bioterrorism agent is called back into action. Alongside two young employees, he must confront an invisible and out-of-control threat.
From Shaun of the Dead to Jennifer’s Body, growing up in the 2000’s the horror genre seemed to be going through a renaissance: not taking themselves too seriously and just a whole lot of fun. While those kinds of films seemed to wane over time, we now have the wonderful Cold Storage. A movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Cold Storage is a fun, lightweight ride with a loveable cast to boot.
Travis 'Teacake' and Naomi, two employees at a self-storage company, have the wildest shift of their lives when a parasitic fungus that was sealed by the government escapes. As the temperature rises underground, the highly contagious and rapidly mutating microorganism starts to multiply as it unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting terrors on the facility's inhabitants - human and otherwise.
Cold Storage knows what kind of film it is. The plot is incredibly simple. That’s it. And it commits to that and owns it not trying to unnecessarily flesh out plot lines or characters backstories. This is just a fun, breezy, slightly gory ride.
Which results in a film that can play around the edges of the genre with their own original flare. From a cat self-destructing (if you’re a cat lover, cover your eyes) to Liam Neeson’s Quinn re-injuring his bad back and having to fight off zombies lying down, Cold Storage is stacked with fun at every turn.
A movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Cold Storage is a fun, lightweight ride with a loveable cast to boot.
