disney animated films that need the live action

By Lyall Carter

To celebrate the release of Disney's live action remake of The Lion King we thought we'd bring together a list of Disney animated classics that should be given the live action remake! We have also assembled our dream cast for each remake too!

Anything you would've added to the list? An actor that you think would be better suited for a particular role?

(Note: We haven't included Lady and the Tramp, The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Sword in the Stone, or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as these have all been confirmed to be in some form of production.)

Already getting the live action treatment in 1996 with Glenn Close magnificently playing Cruella de Vil and although there is a live action origin story coming out soon starring Emma Stone as a young Cruella, we reckon that the original deserves a live action remake.

When a litter of Dalmatian puppies are abducted by the minions of Cruella de Vil, the parents Pongo and Purdie must find them before she uses them for a diabolical fashion statement.

CGI would be used to create all the animals but who would be cast as the humans? See our dream 101 Dalmations cast below!

John Krasinski (The Office US, A Quiet Place) not only has the looks but the energy and sarcastic sense of humour needed to play Roger. I wonder if he can the catchy Cruella de Ville on the piano?

If you're gonna get anyone to play a role that Glenn Close once played then Emma Thompson (Love Actually, Nanny McPhee) is the only actor that could possibly fill those shoes. She would also be magnificently evil as Cruella - who wouldn't want to see her chasing after little dalmatian puppies?

Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Toast of London) is not only hilariously dead pan but has great comedic chemistry with Mackenzie Crook as we saw in a brief scene in Christopher Robin which is a must for this criminal duo.

Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Mission: Impossible - Fallout) has the English accent down (you'd kinda expect that), has the looks, and could definitely stand up to Cruella too as Anita does.

Mackenzie Crook (The Office UK, Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy) has already been in a couple of Disney flicks and has the comedic chops and the looks to pull off the role of Jasper.

Julie Walters (Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia) is a magnificent actress with the sweet kindness that Nanny needs. It also helps that she's played a nanny before in the Paddington movies and Mary Poppins Returns

atlantis: the lost empire (2001)
atlantis.jpg

One of the most underrated Disney animated films, Atlantis: The Lost Empire is an exquisitely animated, Indiana Jones like adventure.

Milo Thatch is obsessed with finding the lost city of Atlantis which his grandfather, the famous adventurer Thaddeus Thatch, failed to find. Without the Shepherd's Journal, a guide to Atlantis, Milo has never been able to discover its location. But his grandfathers old friend, millionaire Preston B. Whitmore, has not only finally found the Shepherd's Journal but will fund the expedition with a full crew. With Milo at the helm of the expedition, the crew set off on a wild adventure to the lost empire of Atlantis.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire is the kind of Disney movie that would be a tremendous live action flick and we've assembled an all star cast to pull it off!
