An idealistic young woman juggles her family and work life in a comedy about the people you love and how to survive them.
Ella McCay marks the quiet return of the films we've been missing on the big screen. When the special effects and blockbuster titles are wearing thin, moviegoers will find Ella McCay a breath of fresh air! Witty and endearing, its ensemble cast of stars and heart-warming story feel nostalgic in the very best way.
The cast of Ella McCay simply must be listed, with names we know and love, along with lead Emma Mackey - continuing to make a real name for herself. Jamie Lee Curtis of course brings the heart and unmissable humour as the aunt-we-all-wish-we-had. Along with Jack Lowden, Kuwait Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri and Woody Harrelson.
Mackey plays McCay, a young woman with huge aspirations that works and works until they happen. Where her family lets her down in life, she is spurred on to go further and further. Her proud aunt in her corner, Ella reaches huge political heights while balancing the million other spinning plates of life - a dissatisfied husband, troubled brother and desperate and estranged father.
Mackey had me drawing some parallels to Anne Hathaway- but perhaps even more likeable. She truly held her own amongst Hollywood greats and I hope to see her as a leading lady again. Alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, they make a sensational pair you can't peel your eyes off.
Featuring lots of intriguing intertwining stories, and characters, and could-be's, Ella McCay felt like it could make a great TV series - and I'm yet to decide whether that's a good or bad thing...
Let's say, it's good, because Ella McCay couldn't have been anything else.
Witty and endearing, Ella McCay's ensemble cast of stars and heart-warming story feel nostalgic in the very best way.
