On the brink of losing her home, Maddie finds an intriguing job listing: helicopter parents looking for someone to bring their introverted 19-year-old son out of his shell before college. She has one summer to make him a man or die trying.
While Jennifer Lawrence has never really starred in a full blown comedy before, her charming, blunt, and self-effacing sense of humour that has come across in some of her work but mainly in her interviews shows that she has the comedic nouse to star in one.
Finally, Lawrence has entered the cinematic comedy genre in No Hard Feelings, a flick that is reminiscent of the summer laugh fests of the 90’s and early 2000’s. A breezy, funny and at times heartwarming comedy, No Hard Feelings is brilliantly led by Jennifer Lawrence who delivers a comedic masterclass.
On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college. To her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing.

First things first - this is an adult comedy filled with innuendo and a sequence that I never thought I’d ever witness: Jennifer Lawrence beating up some teenagers that stole her clothes while completely naked.

The real comedic gold is found in Maddie’s pursuit of Percy as she goes way over the top in a bid to seduce him. This results in Percy macing her in the face, skinny dipping that ends in the aforementioned bashing of teenage clothes thieves, and the most awkward twerking you’ll ever witness.

But underneath the mace, riding on car bonnets, and finger traps toys gone awry, is a real beating heart. On first appearance this is Percy’s coming of age story. But this is about both characters addressing their various disappointments and heartache, and moving on with their lives.

Jennifer Lawrence is incredible here. Brilliantly over the top as she tries to seduce Percy, heartbreakingly heartfelt, and all around likeable, No Hard Feelings finally shows her comedic chops on full display. Can’t wait to see her in more full blown comedic fare.
Little known Andrew Barth Feldman gives a real star turn here too, not only playing the comedic stooge to Lawrence’s all out comedy, but also delivering the laughs too.
