Charles, Oliver and Mabel are implicated in the murder of Bunny Folger and must decide whether to lay low or risk their lives to catch the killer.
Following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver & Mabel race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue - the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny's homicide, they are now the subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.
The first season of Only Murders in the Building was a triumph. From the mysterious and twisting murder plot to the trio of Martin, Short, and Gomez and even the gorgeous production design made for one of the best TV shows of 2021.
So what next? Often a TV show, having experienced critical acclaim and creating a loyal fanbase, plays it safe, or jumps the shark or ends with such a whimper like the last season of Game of Thrones. But the second series of Only Murders in the Building doesn’t make any of those mistakes.
While there are touchstones to the first series, it doesn’t rely on what has gone before. It is a completely new murder mystery that is truly engrossing and will have you waiting with baited breath for the next episode with a handful of theories in hand. The whimsy and wit of the previous series is vibrantly present in this one and will have you laughing out loud as our beloved trio seeks to solve the murder to get themselves off the suspect list.
There are also a whole lot of new supporting characters and we learn so much more about the Arconia building itself too. One of the aspects of Only Murders in the Building that is really impressive is there ability to develop a depth, usually in such a small amount of time, into their supporting characters. And with a raft of new supporting characters this season, Only Murders in the Building does this brilliantly.
The production design is something special too. From the opening titles to the Arconia itself and Martin, Short, and Gomez’s wardrobe (EVERYTHING Selena wears is a winner), Only Murders in the Building is the best looking show on TV.
While Steve Martin and Martin Short give us perfectly timed comedic moments as you’d expect, it's the emotional heft and heart that they bring to their characters as each character is developed throughout the series. But it's Gomez Mabel that is the real star of Only Murders in the Building. The story arc her character heads on throughout the series, and the humanity that Gomez infuses into her, Mabel might just be one of the coolest and most glamorous characters on TV right now.
The best TV of 2022. Hands down.
