Ria Khan believes that she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting her friends' help, she attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists, in the name of independence and sisterhood.

Every so often I get to walk into a darkened cinema not really knowing what film I’m gonna see. While I love the hype - the trailers, posters, interviews, and sneak peaks - there is nothing quite like being swept up into a story without having any preconceived ideas or expectations. Which was my experience with Polite Society. It took me completely by surprise.

Polite Society is slightly bonkers but fun packed, kick ass action stacked flick filled to the brim with charm and charisma that will have a smile plastered across your face for days to come.

Polite Society follows Ria Khan, a bolshy school girl and martial artist-in-training who dreams of becoming a world renowned stunt woman. When Ria witnesses her big sister Lena give up on her dreams by dropping out of art school and getting engaged, Ria’s world is shaken. She believes she must save her sister from the shackles of marriage in the only way she knows how, by enlisting the help of her friends and attempting to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of freedom and sisterhood.

Polite Society is a love story, but not merely a romcom, but one that tells and celebrates the deep bond between sisters. This is the driving force that propels Ria to the extremes that she does to save her sister from the ‘impending doom’ of her upcoming, slightly arranged marriage.

What makes Polite Society such a joy is its mish-mash of genres which takes the very best of British comedy, martial arts action, and tried and true romcoms and adds a massive dollop of charisma and mixes it all together. There is never a dull moment, as you’re drawn deep into this shout out to the sisterhood, a flick with a real, solid message at its heart without being at all preachy.

But what holds it all together is the relationship between Ria and Lena, wonderfully portrayed by Priya Kansara and Ritu Arya. There is a real sisterly chemistry here, adding a real level of believability to the piece. Kansara's performance is truly a breakout one and an actress to keep an eye out for in the future.
