Centers on the strained relationship between young mother Morgan Grant and her teenage daughter Clara, exacerbated by Morgan's husband Chris's tragic death, forcing them to navigate life's challenges together.
Regretting You is packed with tears, teen angst and torturous family dynamics - reminding me exactly why I loved sitting watching these kind of films in cinema as a teen.
Romance, romcom and romance dramas were how I became obsessed with movies as a teen, then somewhere between entering my twenties and Covid, they stopped coming to the big screen. My hope is that Regretting You is their triumphant return!
Based off another of Colleen Hoover's cult fave novels, Regretting You is about Clara (McKenna Grace) and her mother Morgan's (Allison Williams) relationship. They're close, yet different - and then suddenly a tragic event flips everything upside down. Trauma, secrets, tragedy, mistakes and regrets are revealed as their lives are upturned in the most unexpected way. The cast is filled out with Dave Franco and Mason Thames and follows tandem stories about love and loss from teen and adult perspectives.
I watched along with my 16 year old niece, and while what stuck may have been different for us both, it shows just what we've been missing at the movies! Like many romance movies, some may cringe at parts or characters, but for the romance lovers, the characters are likeable and authentic, and the story moving. It's the same emotional and heart-wrenching journey that drew audiences to the books, so bring the tissues.
