Jennifer Walters navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered Hulk.
In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany)—an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases—must navigate the complicated life of a single, 30-something who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is the eighth Disney Plus MCU TV series and the last of Phase Four (except for a couple of upcoming specials) with each series adding a further depth to the MCU with storylines and characters that intertwine with the feature length films. It also means that we get a whole lot of different Marvel characters in different genres. And with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law we have our first Marvel lawyer show.
After the opening episode where her cousin Bruce Banner explains the ways of being a Hulk to newly hulkified Jennifer Walters, She-Hulk plays like any other lawyer TV show with a case each week. Compared with the likes of Loki and Moonknight, She-Hulk feels small scale and it doesn't feel as though it's feeding into the larger MCU narrative.
Free from that demand, the creators have a lot of fun with She-Hulk from breaking the third wall to awkward yet hilarious family dinners, She-Hulk is unfettered, breezy, and just plain fun. While the internet invariably went into a meltdown over She-Hulk’s CGI, there is nothing to see here. The character CGI looks superb and most importantly when in the form of She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters not only maintains her humanity but the Hulk version accentuates it. And this is all down to the brilliant Tatiana Maslany.
Tatiana Maslany is superb as She-Hulk, electric, lighting up the screen with charisma. She has tremendous chemistry with Ruffalo’s Hulk, and manages to not only bring a real warmth to the character but is also uproariously funny too.
Unfettered from the task of serving a larger MCU story, She-Hulk: Attorney at Large is breezy and just plain fun with an electric performance from star Tatiana Maslany.
