When the manic Dr Robotnik returns to Earth with a new ally, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new friend Tails is all that stands in their way.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will probably be one of the last times that we see Jim Carrey on the big screen. Which while a pity, at least he went out in all of his zany, crazy physical comedic glory. While Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn’t going to set the world ablaze in a blur of blue glory, it's a breezy, fun, family film that will keep the kids and adults alike thoroughly entertained throughout.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove that he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of a mystical emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

While I LOVE Sonic the Hedgehog, the first film’s success was a little bit of a surprise for me. But what it did prove is that there is a real market out there for family friendly live action fare.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is almost a reheat of the previous film. With the return of Dr. Robotnik and his crazy schemes, the narrative beats feel quite familiar. But it’s the execution of those beats that make it so entertaining.

From the CGI battles between Knuckles and Sonic to Jim Carrey and his madcap, Energizer bunny level of a performance, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a really entertaining ride. Even with all the eye rolling bad but still chuckle worthy puns.
