SpongeBob journeys to the ocean's depths to face the Flying Dutchman's ghost, encountering challenges and uncovering marine mysteries.
SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in their biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event ever…The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.
SpongeBob is back! And while he doesn’t come with Keanu Reeves or David Hasselhoff he does come with Mark Hamill who appears more as a voice than as a living, breathing character.
The story itself is pretty simple: SpongeBob wants to set out to prove his bravery, to become more grown up and sets off on a swashbuckling quest to do so. Thematically, there’s some really great stuff here for kids exploring the sense of wanting to grow up and what that may or may not look like.
The animation itself is a fantastic feast for the senses, bursting with colour and creativity all the while cracking jokes that are just as much for the adults as they are for the younger members in the audience.
Bright, bubbly, and slightly bonkers, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is a great animated adventure for SpongeBob fans and newcomers alike.
