When Julia McKenzie took over the role of octogenarian detective Miss Marple from Geraldine McEwan, many people were dismayed. But their fears were quickly allayed when they saw McKenzie in the role. She is quite magnificent and carries a sense of vulnerability and warmth as well as steely determination that was always present in the character of Miss Marple in Christie’s books.
This box set contains eleven films of series four to six with a host of guest actors from Benedict Cumberbatch to Joan Collins. There is a slight tonal shift in the episodes towards a little bit darker fare which helps to add a sense of urgency to the solving of the mysteries.
For fans of classic murder mysteries, Miss Marple: Series Four to Six is a real treat with a host of guest stars to fill out the cast.
